The Insurance of Sub-Contractor
On the 20th April, in partnership with the CII, Roger Flaxman and Michael Wilson from Flaxmans hosted their latest webinar on the topic of the insurance of sub-contractors.
The webinar explored the idea that most people outside of the insurance industry find insurance confusing and unfair and that it is up to those within the industry to aid understanding and do what we can to bring about fair outcomes.
An insurer or broker who is dealing with the construction industry will know from the outset they are dealing with people for whom insurance is not normally a top priority. What can we do to help?Watch Webinar
The webinar starts by identifying the things that commonly go wrong and then goes on to what we can do about it.
Examples of what goes wrong
- The Statement of Fact states: The number of persons working in the business does not exceed 10. What does this mean?
- Some schemes for contractors fail to provide any guidance on the difference between genuine sub-contractors and labour-only sub-contractors. What can we do about this?
- Some online policies do little to encourage their Insured to review numbers of employees and turnover at each renewal. Such policies must be regularly updated otherwise they will not work at the claims stage. How can we make this happen?
The webinar examines such problems and makes suggestions to help us all improve policyholder’s experience. If we can aid understanding, the customer’s perception of insurance should improve.Read the full Factsheet
